Embark on a journey of creating truly unique characters, where you spend Ranks to enhance your chances of success on skill checks and select Talents that bestow your character with distinctive combat abilities. Choose a Personal Oath and unveil a Dream and flaw that will shape your character's motivations and actions, making them truly one-of-a-kind.

Experience the thrill of lethal and fast-paced combat, where there's no need to roll to hit! The days of missing are long gone. Instead, you roll your damage against your opponent's armor protection and defense, with the remaining total subtracted from their Spirit. Freelancers enjoy the added advantage of counter-defense, which they can execute each time they are hit so as long they succeed a Stagger check. This ensures an entirely immersive and active combat experience, regardless of whose turn it is.

Gain Honor, Infamy, and Renown for your actions inside and outside of combat, your handling of quests, and your role-playing of your character. Then, spend Honor and Infamy to help your ally's dice rolls or hinder your enemy's dice rolls. Finally, Renown gains you new Talents and Ranks and significantly alters the way the world interacts with you.

Collect ancient relics, such as powerful artifacts or forgotten knowledge, and fight vile foes, such as monstrous creatures or sinister fae! Ancient, powerful magic lurks in the shadowy corners of ruins and forgotten places on earth. Magic is rare and unique, and its interpretation is up to the players and the game master.

Play in any ancient or medieval setting of your choice, whether it's a gritty medieval city, a mystical elven forest, or a war-torn kingdom. Interact with fairy-tale-dark, low-fantasy enemies that leave your Freelancers scarred physically and mentally.
